In the past week, I've had two different people specifically ask me about how they decide how much of their content to give away for free on their podcast.

I'm not a business coach so I can't tell you what the ideal amount is, but I can tell you how I make that decision for this podcast and how it's worked out for me over the two years I've had this podcast.

Welcome to podcasting for coaches. I'm Britany Felix and I'm a podcast launch consultant who specializes in helping coaches and consultants utilize the power of podcasting as a way to build brand awareness and generate new leads for their business. I realize not every new coach or consultant can afford to hire someone to help launch their show. So I created this podcast as a way to guide you through the process of launching and utilizing your very own podcast to help you grow your business and reach a new audience of adoring followers and potential clients. If you're ready to get your voice and podcast out into the world, head over to podcasting for coaches.com. To learn more. Brittany here, I have a couple of quick announcements before I dive into the main content of this episode. And the first is that the main content was actually recorded at the end of May. And then George Floyd was murdered, and everything has happened since then. So I actually ended up taking the entire month of june off from this podcast, as you may know, and I ended up tabling this episode and waiting to release it until now, when it felt a little bit more appropriate to resume with my normal content, I guess you could say the anti racism work is not done, you'll still hear a little more about that on the show. But we're gonna start getting into more of the podcasting content again. So you'll notice that I actually refer to this by the wrong episode number. And that's because it was originally going to be released a while ago, a few episodes back. So the correct episode number is, of course, Episode 86. So when you look for the show notes on my website, you're actually going to be looking for Episode 86, not the episode number I mentioned in the episode. And I also mentioned that my group program would be launching in July. Well, it's now mid July. And that's obviously not happening. When I put basically everything in my business on hold in June. Except for my ongoing client work, of course, I decided to push back the launch of the group program. So it will actually now be happening at the very beginning of September. However, if you are interested in that group program, I do have a waitlist going right now. And the people on the waitlist will actually get early access to the program, they will be able to grab their spot a full week before it opens up to the general public. And there are only 10 spots available. So they're likely to go pretty fast. So if you want to get on that waitlist, if you want to be the first to get any sort of information or details, just go to podcasting for coaches comm forward slash start podcasting. And you can get a little bit more information there. And then go ahead and sign up for that waitlist. The next announcement is that I am taking on a few last one on one launch clients at my current rate, I am going to be increasing those once this group program launches. And I want to be a good chunk of the way through helping my one on one clients before that program starts. So over the next couple of weeks, I'm going to accept up to four new one on one launch clients. And then that's it, it's closed at my current rate. So if you would like to learn more about that you can go to podcasting for coaches.com. There's a work with me tab and then you can find all of the services that I offer. And of course it is the launch packages that will break down the rate what's exactly included. And then you can schedule a no pressure conversation so that we can see if we're a good fit to work together to launch your podcast. And lastly, if you are not ready to launch a podcast, or maybe you already have one, but your clients are if you think that they are ready to go with a podcast, or it's something they've been considering, and you want to be an affiliate for that group program, I am opening it up to affiliates as well. The details are still being worked out. I have my VA working on some copy and some images, currently working out the final numbers as far as commission but it should be pretty lucrative for you because I believe in paying affiliates very well for their time. So if you're interested in being an affiliate for that group program that will help your clients launch their very own podcast in eight weeks or less. Then go to my website and click on the Contact button that is right there in the main menu on the home page. And just shoot me a quick little message via that contact form letting me know that you're interested in being an affiliate, and we can start the conversation from there. Okay, those are all the updates I have thank you for bearing with me during those but now let's get into the content that was promised in the title. Welcome to Episode 84 podcasting for coaches. This is probably going to be a pretty quick episode. But I needed to release an episode on this and the universe was clearly telling me that because just last week alone, I had two different people asked me about determining what content to give away for free on their path. cost versus what to charge for when they work with someone. I am not a business coach. So I don't necessarily know what the right answer for that is. I just know what I do and what feels good to me. And in case, this also feels good to you, I want you to know from experience how this plays out in my own show. So I've had this podcast for two years now. And I have been pretty open about it doesn't exactly get a ton of crazy downloads. But that's okay, because it helps me get business. And I've explained in previous episodes, I think it was episode number 47. About how this podcast does that. But when I sit down and think about what content I want to give away for free on the podcast, and what I want to charge my clients for? The answer is that it's the exact same, to be perfectly honest, I give away everything for free on the show, there is nothing that I hold back. If someone has a question, I answer it, there's nothing that is off the table or off limits, like if you have a question, I'm going to answer it for you. And if it's worthy enough to go and a podcast episode, I'll do it that way. Otherwise, I'll just respond to an email, or a Facebook comment or you know, an Instagram comment or a DM. Now, if you have a lot of questions, I might suggest then that we actually do an official consultation call. But just because of who I am as a person, I can't help but help others. I can't help but want to give as much as I can. So I'm not going to have somebody come to me with a question and me tell them, oh, well, I can answer that for you. But only if you pay me. And I'm not saying you're that way either. But there does have to be that line of you know what you're going to give away for free and what you're going to charge for. And for me, it's just more about the quantity. If somebody has a lot of questions, then I charge if it's one or two questions that I can answer for them, I'm gonna do it. And I've done that in every single episode of the show. And I would hope by now that you understand that I do that. Because technically, if you want to go back to the very beginning of the show, it will teach you everything you need to know about starting a podcast and utilizing it for your business. And of course, the older episodes, some of the information may be outdated. But guess what, I've done update episodes on some of the information that is outdated. So it's not even like I put this information out there once and I'm like, Oh, well, you're gonna have to figure it out on your own for what you do with it. Now, I just don't do that. I'm literally go through everything on this show that I go through with my one on one clients, and my soon to be group program clients. I'll talk about that at the end of the show. So you may be wondering, Why on earth would somebody hire me? Why on earth would somebody pay me 1000s of dollars to help them launch a podcast when they can literally get it all for free on the show. And in my experience with my own clients, it's because they just don't want to mess with it. They don't want to sit through all these podcast episodes, they don't want to take notes, they don't want to watch all the tutorials, they don't want to try and figure it out on their own. They don't want to do it, they don't have time, they don't have the desire. So they hire me to shorten up that process dramatically. And to have somebody to bounce ideas off of. Because yes, this hopefully feels like a conversation with you. But I can't actually respond back to you in real time. So you can't tell me what you're thinking and have me give you advice. Whereas my one on one clients obviously can. So in my own experience, I honestly do not worry even a tiny little bit about what I give away for free. And whether or not that's going to stop some people from wanting to hire me. Because the person who's going to sit and listen through hours upon hours upon hours of free content to try and DIY themselves is not the person who's going to become my client. They're not the ones I'm necessarily targeting, to actually work with. So again, I can't tell you that this is what you can do for your show. I'm not a business coach. Like I said at the beginning. This could be terrible advice. But it's worked out well for me. And it feels good to me. Because I don't ever want someone who wants to start a podcast and is like just starting their business. And they are seriously bootstrapping they have to do this as cheaply as possible. They still deserve to have this information to it's just again, going to take them a little bit longer to get through it. And it's also going to be a little bit more difficult because they're doing it on their own without somebody to double check everything, have an expert eyes on it, get expert feedback, have an expert just take care of some of the things for them altogether, especially the more technical aspects and the editing. So that's what people are paying me for. But I'm also going to always have people who just consume my free content and that's fine with me. So if you are thinking that you just want to give away a ton of information and content for free But you're worried that no one will ever hire you. I can 100% tell you, that has not been the case in my business. And with my podcast, my business has still continued to grow. I have still converted podcast listeners into paying clients. I still utilize my podcast to grow my business, all of those things. So hopefully this helps put your mind a little bit more at ease for you determining what feels right to you, and what content you give away for free and what content you charge for. If you have any follow up questions about this. If you want to know anything, literally anything about how I use this podcast for my business, even with giving away a ton of free content, absolutely feel free to reach out to me. My favorite way is through Instagram, you can find me on there, I'm at podcasting for coaches. I of course have a contact form on my website, which is podcasting for coaches.com. Okay, and that's going to wrap that up, like I said, super quick. But I do want to offer you a little bit of insight into something that I am going to be launching in July. And that is my first ever group launch program. Up until now, the only way that I can assist you with your launch was either working with me one on one, or doing my online course which is entirely self paced and doesn't really have any interaction with me. Both are great options. But sometimes we will like a sense of community and they like going through things with others. So I am going to launch my very first group podcast launch program, I am still working out the details for that I don't quite have a sign up yet, kind of coming up with a name creating the graphics, all of those things. But I wanted to give you a little hint. The first public announcement of it is here on the podcast for you for being a faithful listener of the show. And more details will of course emerge throughout the next few episodes. Thank you so much for joining me and I will see you back here next week for yet another episode. Have a fantastic week. And that wraps up another episode of podcasting for coaches. If you'd like to connect with me further, you can do so on Instagram at podcasting for coaches. If you know it's time to finally get serious about starting your podcast, go to podcasting for coaches calm and click on the work with me tab in the main menu to learn more about my one on one launch consultation packages or my self paced online course. And I look forward to seeing the podcasts that you create and put out into the world.
